Deptford has a diverse population of origins and orientations many of whom are represented in this centrally situated housing coop, DHC .
2020 was a very busy year for the network development team. Since installation of gb/s fibre broadband service in February, work to upgrade the network infrastructure first installed by SPC in 2002 was accelerated to meet upsurge in demand following the months of pandemic isolation, more intensified homeworking and high speed entertainment.
The wireless is monitored using a UISP for Edgerouter/switches and Cloudkey controller for UAP AC-Pro’s that allows for granular detailed information about the network performance and radio space to be used in efforts to improve access for all members.
The houses are laid out in a U shape with the network control and fibre uplink in the MC office H16. Two blocks of houses 01-04 and 5-8 have a shared kitchen/breakfastroom and 10 rooms over 3 floors. Each house now has a dedicated switch powering an UAP per floor. Houses 09-15 each has two flats per floor with wireless provided by a Ruckus H500 and a UAP-AC Pro.
During the initial installation, ethernet was drawn through all the loftspaces to the MC office space where there is now a GB fibre broadband service distributed to these houses. There is an outdoor cable link between GB switches in H04 and H08, between GB switches at H08 and POE GB switches in H10, then POE GB switches at H15 to H16 (office). Every effort was made to keep cables as short as possible and external cables have been replaced a couple of times due to UV damage though possibly not often enough! As of September 1st 2024 a fresh wave of connection issues equire we now review some links with urgency as network faults are disrupting access.
Its been a complex but successful infrastructure we continue to develop and maintain with 250 or more devices connecting each day. Further services for the local network are in use for filesharing and gaming. A whole additional layer of CCTV was added in 2009 which follows a similar pattern but which we do not manage.
